Sexually transmitted diseases can be some of the most uncomfortable, annoying things a person can get. Especially because it comes from such a personal and intimate situation, discussing these things with someone who can help to treat it can be an intimidating process. If you suspect that you may have a sexually transmitted disease, it is likely that you have many questions: Which disease do I have? Is it curable? What am I going to do now? By learning a little bit of general information about the nature, development, treatment, and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (often referred to as STDs), you can save yourself a lot of heartache.

Our world is becoming more and more open to sexual activity, and traditional behaviors and beliefs are taking a backseat to more recently formed ideas.

Whether or not it is because of this change in mindset, the recorded amount of people diagnosed with sexually transmitted diseases has greatly increased. There is great danger in having unprotected sex, and once you have contracted a sexually transmitted disease, you then have to deal with a number of uncomfortable consequences.

There are a lot of different kinds of STDs, and each runs an individual course. Some are curable. Some can easily be treated. Some are easily passed on, and others may not show their faces for some time after you actually contract them. To help you see the variety of STDs out there a little bit better, consider the following information:

Gonorrhea is a bacterial STD that can sometimes remain unnoticed for quite some time. Genital Warts (also known as the HPV – human papilloma virus) is one that will definitely be noticed, but cannot be cured. The symptoms that stem from this infirmity can be controlled, however.

Chlamydia is possibly the most common STD contracted by sexually active people. Some of the symptoms include pain during intercourse, as well as abnormal discharge from the individual’s sexual organs. However, Chlamydia is a disease that can be treated, and cured, if dealt with appropriately.

One of the most dangerous, incurable STDs, however, is AIDS/HIV. This disease is transmitted through semen, vaginal secretion, blood, and breast milk, and can actually be deadly. Its progress can be monitored and somewhat controlled, but a cure is yet to be found for this disease.

By being aware of the sexual health of yourself and your partner, as well as ways to protect each other from possible harm is a great way to avoid problems with these sexual diseases.

Question by : Can you get STD symptoms the day after sex?
had sex with this girl, was kinda rough, the condom broke at some point towards the end either a bit before or at the end when i came (i pulled out), got her the morning after pill just in case so not worried about that, but this morning i woke up and saw i had a small redness area on the bottom of my penis. just wondering if this is an std or if its from the “kinda rough” sex as i put it earlier.

Best answer:

Answer by Belle
pehaps, some others take up to 4 weeks before they show. You’d be best to either wait and be alert of what to look out for or get yourself down to a GUM clinic, which you should do anyways since you are sexually active to keep up to date on your sexual health… they’d take a urine sample, maybe a swab, look, seamen and if the worse is suspected a blood test.. i thiknk this is not a lot, and less invasive than for women, so keep checked up, as your health is the most important thing!

Note that: some people has STIs yet never show any symptoms, so you could or she could have one already without knowing!
I seriuously advise you getting checked out, otherwise it will be on your mind x

Infection by genital HPV (human papillomavirus) is quite common. The vast majority of people that are sexually active can acquire the Human papilloma virus at some stage in their lives. However quite a few won’t realize it simply because they won’t have any signs and symptoms.

The HPV virus lives in mucous membranes, for instance those in the genital area, or in the skin. When genital hpv warts appear, now you have an indicator of HPV infection. Genital warts carry out a variety of appearances. They could be elevated, flat, light red, or flesh-colored. They are even in the shape of cauliflower. Occasionally there’s a sole wart; in other cases several hpv warts show up. They may be little or big. They may be on the rectum, cervix, scrotum, groin, thigh, or penis.

Genital warts can show up several weeks and even months right after sexual contact with an individual who have contracted Human papilloma virus. That individual might not realize she or he is infected with the virus and is liable for HPV transmission.

A few kinds of genital HPV infection are related to cancer, including cancer of the vulva, anus, or penis or cervix. When an infection happens with one of these virus forms, precancerous changes may appear in cells in the tissue without creating any signs and symptoms.

Presently there is no cure for HPV,but the good thing is the virus usually clears by itself. If this doesn’t, and treatment methods are necessary, there are lots of HPV solutions. In addition, as more individuals are vaccinated with all the new HPV vaccines, the HPV infection rates could be reduced.

For the present time, HPV treatment targets treating the signs and symptoms of the virus. Signs and symptoms include genital warts connected with low-risk HPV kinds (that do not usually result in cancers) and the precancerous changes occasionally linked to the high-risk kinds of HPV.

HPV Treatments for Tissue Changes

When the HPV infection has triggered abnormal cell changes which could result in cervical cancer, you’ll find 4 primary treatments:

Observe and wait around. Occasionally the cell changes — called cervical dysplasia, precancerous cell changes, or cervical intraepithelial neoplasia — will recover by themselves.
Cryotherapy. This will involve freezing the abnormal cells with liquid nitrogen.
Conization. This process, also called a cone biopsy, eliminates the irregular spots.
LEEP or Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure. The abnormal cells are taken off using a pain-free electrical current.

The treatment of the warts aggressively soon after they show up is discouraged. They might still be appearing. Do the treatment again will be necessary later on.

If treatment methods are advised, patients could get a prescription cream from their medical doctor to use in your home. There’s two choices:

Podofilox, or Condylox
Imiquimod, or Aldara
Your doctor can instruct you exactly how to use these treatment options. Podofilox can be used for around 4 weeks. It functions by doing damage to the wart tissue. Studies have shown that about 45% to 90% of warts are removed, however in 30% to 60% of instances, the warts may come back.

Imiquimod enhances the defense mechanisms so it battles off the infection. Clearance rates vary from 70% to 85%, however in 5% to 20% of instances the warts return.

Women which have HPV while pregnant may be concerned that the HPV virus could cause harm to their unborn baby. However in many instances, the human papillomavirus has no effect on the developing child. Neither does HPV infection typically alter the approach a woman is treated while pregnant. It is necessary, nonetheless, that the obstetrician be aware of if a woman has HPV.

The chance of HPV transmission to the child throughout childbirth is extremely low. Even when newborns do acquire the HPV virus, their own bodies generally clear the disease by themselves. More often than not, a child born to a woman with genital warts doesn’t have HPV-related problems. In rare instances, a child born to a woman that has genital warts will build up warts in the throat. This severe illness is known as respiratory papillomatosis and needs regular laser surgery to stop the warts from obstructing the newborn’s air passage.

As well as even if the woman has a kind of HPV virus which has induced cervical cancer, the newborn could be delivered safely.

Specialists don’t agree concerning the benefit of a cesarean section in attempting to avoid HPV transmission from other to baby. Many say it might present some safety against HPV for the infant. However due to the fact that infants hardly ever acquire HPV during childbirth — and may clear the disease by themselves — the potential risks of surgical treatment do not over-shadow the possible advantage, based to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Preventing HPV After Giving birth

If a Pap test was abnormal while pregnant, the physician will probably perform one more Pap test a couple weeks after the birth. Occasionally, the cervical cell changes disappear following giving birth and absolutely no treatment methods are necessary.

Occasionally, genital warts also disappear. Otherwise, the physician may suggest cure after giving birth.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is really a member of the papillomavirus family of viruses that’s capable of infecting humans. Like all papillomaviruses, HPVs establish productive infections only in the stratified epithelium of the skin or mucous membranes. While the majority of the nearly 200 known types of HPV trigger no symptoms in most people, some kinds can trigger warts (verrucae), whilst others can – in a minority of cases – result in cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina, and anus in women or cancers of the anus and penis in men.[1]

Much more than 30 to 40 kinds of HPV are usually transmitted through sexual contact and infect the anogenital region. Some sexually transmitted HPV kinds may trigger genital warts. Persistent infection with “high-risk” HPV types-different from the ones that trigger skin warts-may progress to precancerous lesions and invasive cancer.[2] HPV infection is really a cause of nearly all cases of cervical cancer;[3] nevertheless, most infections with these kinds don’t trigger disease.

Most HPV infections in young females are temporary and have little long-term significance. 70% of infections are gone in 1 year and 90% in 2 years.[4] However, when the infection persists-in 5% to 10% of infected women-there is high risk of developing precancerous lesions of the cervix, which can progress to invasive cervical cancer. This procedure usually takes 15-20 years, supplying many opportunities for detection and treatment of the pre-cancerous lesion. Progression to invasive cancer could be nearly always prevented when standard prevention strategies are applied – however the lesions still cause considerable burden necessitating preventive surgeries which do in many cases involve loss of fertility.

In more developed countries, cervical screening utilizing a Papanicolaou (Pap) test or liquid-based cytology is used to detect abnormal cells which may develop into cancer. If abnormal cells are found, ladies are invited to have a colposcopy. Throughout a colposcopic inspection biopsies could be taken and abnormal areas could be removed having a simple process, typically with a cauterizing loop or-more typical in the creating world-by freezing (cryotherapy). Treating abnormal cells in this way can prevent them from developing into cervical cancer.

Pap smears have reduced the incidence and fatalities of cervical cancer within the developed world, but even so there were 11,000 instances and three,900 deaths in the U.S. in 2008. Cervical cancer has substantial mortality in resource-poor areas; worldwide, you will find an estimated 490,000 cases and 270,000 deaths.[5][6]

HPV vaccines (Cervarix and Gardasil), which prevent infection with the HPV types (16 and 18) that cause 70% of cervical cancer, might result in further decreases

Susan asked the doctor if there were any medications she could take to relieve her genital wart symptoms. The doctor told her to avoid over the counter medications and to stick with prescription medications. The most common prescription medications used to treat genital warts are Podofilox, imiquimod and TCA.

Podofilox is available as liquid or gel form. This medication works by killing the genital wart tissue. You can use it at home, and it has been effective in about 65% of the cases where it has been used. However, in the case of a pregnant woman treating genital warts, Podofilox can be harmful and may cause birth defects.
Her doctor also suggested a cream containing imiquimod. This is another genital wart remedy remedy that you can apply yourself at home. Imiquimod medications often cost more than Podofilox, and are known to be safer. Imiquimod fights genital warts by helping your immune system. It has been proven effective in about half of the cases where it has been used.

Another medication Susan’s doctor told her about was TCA, or trichloracetic acid, which is a remedy that must be performed at the doctor’s office. It is a caustic agent, and can be harmful to the skin so it cannot be used at home. The doctor puts TCA directly on the warts which kills them. TCA is considered the most effective of the three treatment methods, but because it requires weekly trips to your doctor until the warts are gone, it is inconvenient.

There is also a medical procedure that can be used to treat genital warts together with a prescription medicine. This is alpha interferon, an anti-viral that is injected into the wart tissue. It is expensive and is not effective in preventing further wart outbreaks.

Susan asked the doctor about holistic, herbal or homeopathic remedies. The doctor told her to check at her local health store or on the internet because he was not familiar with these types of genital wart treatments. Susan went home, and started searching on the internet for natural remedies to treat genital warts.
She came upon the Wartrol website and decided that the Wartrol Homeopathic Genital Wart Relief Formula was the right solution for her. She immediately ordered a sample and right away started to feel better. Wartrol helped Susan relieve her genital wart symptons quickly and easily with no side effects.

Latest Genital Wart Research

Researchers know that genital warts (condylomata acuminata or venereal warts) and herpes virus, influenza, warts, measles, canker sores (cold sores) are anaerobic – they cannot exist in an elevated oxygen environment., Influenza, Herpes, Warts, Measles, Canker Sores (Cold Sores) and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) are anaerobic. HPV and herpes viruses exist and proliferate with little or no oxygen present. With increased cellular oxygen levels these anaerobic diseases cannot replicate or exist.
A vaccine called Gardasil is the only cervical cancer vaccine that helps protect against 4 types of human papillomavirus (HPV): 2 types that cause 70% of cervical cancer cases, and 2 more types that cause 90% of genital warts cases. Gardisil is used on girls and young women ages 13 to 26 to help prevent HPV. Genital warts is a form of HPV.

Anyone who is allergic to yeast or other ingredients of Gardasil, should not receive the vaccine. The manufacture states that… “Gardasil should not be used by pregnant women. Gardasil does not treat cervical cancer or genital warts. Gardasil may not fully protect everyone, and does not prevent all types of cervical cancer. It is extremely important to continue routine cervical cancer screenings. Gardisil will not protect against diseases caused by other HPV types or against diseases not caused by HPV.”

According to the FDA, there is no danger in using the HPV vaccine Gardasil. The side effects may include pain, swelling, itching, bruising, and redness at the injection site, headache, fever, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, and fainting. Gardasil is given in 3 injections over a 6 month period.

The vaccine is being tested on men with HPV to see if they develop penile or anal cancer, and it is believed that this vaccine may help prevent these types of cancer in men the same way it helps to prevent cervical cancer in women. Research shows that there is a possibility that giving the vaccine to men infected with HPV may help keep it from spreading to women. These studies are being carried out now. If the latest research finds the vaccine to be effective in treating men that are infected with HPV, the vaccine could dramatically reduce the spread and health effects of the HPV virus including genital warts.

What Works Best

Taking precautions to protect yourself from getting HPV and genital warts is the best solution. Avoid unprotected sex. Wartrol Homeopathic Genital Wart Formula is a safe, easy and effective natural remedy to treat and relieve your genital wart symptoms.

Answer by missmara42
Good for your daughter, she is very smart. Maybe you should research the poisons they are injecting into your body before you blindly follow the crowd. I would never let anyone inject that crap into my body, nor would I ever allow my daughter to be a lab rat to the drug companies. Did you know doctors get a cash bonus for every dose of that garbage they inject into young girls? Do your research, you may not be “one less”.

Genital warts are caused by a highly contagious virus known as HPV. These warts are spread through intimate skin-to-skin contact with an infected partner. Out of about 200 types of HPV identified to date, more than 30 have the ability to infect the genital tract. However, HPV types 6 and 11 are responsible for approximately 90% of all genital warts.

Genital warts can vary in appearance: they can be very small, occur in clusters, or can develop into large masses in the genital area. They seem to be as prevalent in women as men. They occur either vaginally, on the cervix, or around the anus in females. In men, they usually occur on the tip or shaft of the penis, on the scrotum, or around the anus.

When learning about genital warts, one should know that they can be transmitted by both females and males. Because of the nature of women’s body, genital warts are far more prevalent in females. Men however, can end up becoming carriers of the warts, which are derived from HPV. If you are a woman who has been involved in sexual relations with a partner who has HPV, then you should know that your infection might not stop with you. Women who have become pregnant have passed these warts off to their children during childbirth. Once this happens, the newborn can get infected in such areas where the virus can thrive, including their mouth and throat.

In some cases, it has been seen that genital warts have been spread during unclean practices. Some reports have shown that medical equipment that has not been properly cleaned and/or sanitized can lead to the transmission of the disease. While the most common transmission of the virus is through sexual contact with an infected person.

Even if an individual is not showing signs of having an outbreak of the genital warts, it does not mean that they cannot pass it on. HPV can most definitely be passed on even if the warts are not present. This is one of the main reasons why individuals need to be completely careful when they are taking part in sexual activity. All in all, safe practices will be the only thing that can save you from transmitting the HPV. Genital warts, although they can be treated to lessen outbreaks, never go away. Knowing this, it is important for all individuals to take the steps necessary in order to protect themselves from HPV viruse.

Genital warts removal can be a sensitive subject to approach. However, it is something that should be discussed with your doctor if it is an area of great concern for you. Remember that genital warts cannot be treated like common warts. Many of the home kits for wart removal contain chemicals that are too harsh for the genital area, so be sure to discuss your options with your doctor. The most important thing is that if you have genital warts, you need to go to the doctor regularly, so that you can keep an eye on them and make sure that you are healthy, especially if you are a woman because genital warts can spread inside the vagina, on and around the cervix, and can even cause cancer.

Today, there are a variety of treatments for this sexually transmitted disease, including a vaccination that can help prevent them from spreading. Most doctors decide to burn (cauterize) or freeze genital warts as a first option. Unfortunately, success achieved with this method is often temporary and the warts soon reappear. More difficult-to-treat genital warts may have to be surgically excised or burned off. After surgical intervention or chemical acids are used, one can expect a scar in that area.

CURED’s website discusses an alternative antiviral treatment now available which represents a very promising solution to the growing epidemic of genital warts. HPVCurative is a new highly effective and potent genital warts treatment. It is valued for its curative role in the treatment of genital warts and has provided total clearance of the infection time after time.

Users of HPVCurative experience rapid elimination of genital warts, without scarring or recurrence. The treatment is painless and provides superb results. It eliminates genital warts and restores skin tissue to the state it was in prior to the onset of the infection. Since the treatment can effectively remove genital warts and wart-like substances on the genitals, acid or surgical procedures may soon become a thing of the past.

Of course, prevention is the best method. So if you do not have genital warts yet, make sure that you always use protection during sexual activities and especially when you are having sexual intercourse with a new partner. Also make sure that you get yourself tested frequently, even if you have not been having intercourse, because some STDs, including HPV, can linger and not show up until months or even years after you have contracted them. If you have genital warts you need to get them cleared as soon as possible. Use HPVCurative for fast treatment, go to http://www.bcured.net for details.

As there is quite a bit of technical medical terminology that comes with STD testing, the below guide should help you understand all that comes with your test and results.

Acute

An acute illness or symptom is one that has a very quick lifecycle – it not only onsets quickly, but also leaves the body quickly. Just because an illness or symptom is acute and therefore leaves quickly, it does not mean it can only be a mild illness – acute cases can also be quite severe in some instances.

Antibodies

Antibodies are proteins that are found in blood or other bodily fluids, and are used by the immune system to both identify and fight off foreign objects, such as bacteria and viruses. When a disease or virus enters the body, your immune system produces these antibodies which can help to neutralize the infection.

Antigen

An antigen is a molecule that binds itself to an antibody, helping to stimulate the production of additional antibodies and, ultimately, fight off infection.

Chronic

An acute medical condition can mean two things: either that the illness developed slowly, or that the illness is a long-lasting and recurring condition. Chronic diseases are recurrent and therefore relapse repeatedly, with periods of remission in between each onset.

Condom

A condom is a latex barrier device used during sexual intercourse, helping to reduce the likelihood of pregnancy and spreading of sexually transmitted diseases. The latex barrier is put on a man’s erect penis and blocks ejaculated semen from entering the body of a sexual partner.

Cure

In simple terms, a “cure” is the end of a medical condition – its resolution. In regards to STDs, this refers to the treatment that ultimately ends the medical condition. Examples of curable STD infections are Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, which can be cured with prescribed medication.

Dental Dam

Dental dams are comprised of latex and are used during cunnilingus (vaginal oral sex) and analingus (anal oral sex) to protect against the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases and infections. The dental dam is held over the vulva or anus, allowing for oral stimulation of these areas without the transmission of bodily fluids.

Diagnosis

A diagnosis is the process of determining an actual infection or disease. This can be done through several different types of exams and/or medical procedures.

Equivocal

“Equivocal” means the rest is neither strongly positive nor strongly negative. Re-testing would be recommended for a determinate result.

False negative

A “false negative” result means that your STD test determined there was no sign of infection, while infection is actually present. If you think you may have returned a false negative on any test, please contact one of our on-call STD counselors at 877-206-6915 to review your test results, and discuss potential next steps.

False positive

A “false positive” result means that your STD test determined there was sing of an infection, while there is actually no infection present in the body. If you think you may have returned a false positive on any test, please contact one of our on-call STD counselors at 877-206-6915 to review your test results, discuss your symptoms, and evaluate any potential next steps.

Indeterminate

“Indeterminate” means that an STD test result is neither strongly positive nor strongly negative. In most cases, this refers to a HIV test result, which can be skewed by the presence of other infections or diseases. In the case of an indeterminate result, we recommend re-testing. If you happen to return an indeterminate result, please contact one of our on-call STD counselors at 877-206-6915.

Negative

A negative test result means that no sign of infection was found.

Non-reactive

A negative test result means that no sign of infection was found.

Reference Range

The reference range indicates what is in the positive, negative, indeterminate or equivocal ranges for any STD test results.

Positive

Signs of infection were detected during the test. In the event of a positive test result, we recommend you taking advantage of the getSTDtested.com services already included in the price of your test:

Peer to Peer Forum: Visit our online public forum at http://getstdtested.com/forum/ where you will find valuable information from our STD experts, and peer support from people just like you.

Reflex Tests

A “reflex test” is a second test that is performed to verify the results of the first test. A “reflex test” is performed on the same sample as the first test.

Screenings

“Screening” is another term for an STD test. To be “screened” for STDs and STIs means to be tested for STDs and STIs.

Seroconversion

Seroconversion is the process by which your body develops antibodies to help fight off infection. For all diseases, it takes time to develop enough antibodies to register on an STD test. This time between infection and when an STD is actually determinable on a test is referred to as a “window period”. The window period for infection differs for each STD (sexually transmitted disease) or STI (sexually transmitted infection). For example, the time required for Seroconversion (or the Window Period) for HIV is normally 1 to 3 months (although, in some cases, it can be as short as 2 weeks).

Treatment

While some STDs can actually be cured, there are others that can only be treated and never fully cured. For example, there is currently no cure for Herpes, yet there are several treatments available (such as Valtrex) which can help minimize the number of outbreaks and their severity.

Question by krzgrl: GENITAL WARTs?
okay i just found out that i have genital warts. its been over 2 weeks since i started realizing the symptoms. I already went to see the doctor but i want to know if any one knows how long does it take for them to go away?
Do they ever come back???
has anyone had genital warts that can share their experiences with me.. my situation is not severe but i need someone to talk to me about theirs cuz i am stressed??

Best answer:

Answer by just a girl
I’m sorry that you just found out that you have warts. They will go away and with meds if could take a week or two. Even with the use of a condom you can still pass it along bc it is caught through skin contact not semen. You can catch it through oral too. Remember that. Information is enpowering.

They usually do come back. Although I have had a “friend” that had a mild case and was tested 6 months later and was told she no longer had it. I’m not sure if this is usual, but get tested the way the doctors say. Every 3 to 4 months until they say you are ok.

I will set you up with a site that can answer all the questions you have.

http://www.cdc.gov/STD/

Please always use a condom. ONE in FOUR girls have a STD. Take care of yourself.
